QR codes and gold simulations enhance digitally printed beverage packaging for GEMELLii

„enjoy life & make a good impression“,

is the mission of the Italian founders of GEMELLii, twin brothers Christian and Robert Wörner and co-founder Ximena Wörner. As passionate gin connoisseurs, they spent a long time searching for a high-quality tonic water that would impress with its taste and elegance. When they could not find what they were looking for on the market, they took their destiny and that of many gin lovers into their own hands. With a lot of passion, awareness and determination, they created tasty and high quality drinks - made in Italy - with 100 % natural ingredients. The beginning of GEMELLii.

„Where craft and passion meet – a delicious blend made of only the finest ingredients.“

GEMELLii's premium quality products are the result of craftsmanship and passion. The ingredients are carefully selected and assembled over many weeks. Only natural ingredients are used throughout the production process - without sweeteners or preservatives.

Not only is GEMELLii's tonic water of high quality, but the brand's unique bottle design is also a perfect example of Italian elegance. The product design is complemented by matching digitally printed corrugated beverage packaging. For the tonic water flavours Indian Tonic, Bergamot Tonic, Blueberry Tonic and the non-alcoholic Aperitivo Bitter XXVI, there are drink packs for sets of 4, as well as a combined tasting set containing all variants.

The three founders have combined the overall concept of their company with the packaging design. The gold brand ornaments - the two 'ii' - are integrated into the design of the glass bottles. The colours of the drinks are also incorporated: Yellow stands for the fresh citrus flavour of the exquisite Indian Tonic, green for the Mediterranean feel of the Bergamot Tonic, blue for the harmonious taste of blueberries in the Blueberry Tonic and orange for the finely balanced 26 herbs of the non-alcoholic Aperitivo Bitter XXVI, allowing customers to immediately identify which variety they are drinking.

GEMELLii's digitally printed packaging features cut-outs on the front to allow customers to see the high-quality glass bottles. Once again, the ornamentation of the primary and secondary packaging is combined to create a unified image. By integrating a QR Code into the design of the beverage packaging, the young company is also drawing customers' attention to the brand and products. A targeted customer approach that allows gin lovers to access the GEMELLii website, news about the company or new recipe ideas.

Gold simulated ornaments printed digitally

The packaging design was digitally printed. The gold ornaments were simulated using the water-based inks. This means that no gold particles are applied to the paper for the subsequent corrugated beverage packaging, yet a high quality gold simulation is still achieved.

Unlike analogue printing, there is no need to prepare or mix inks for digital printing. There are also no polymer plates required for the printing process.

The flexibility is enormous. It is also possible to print different images on the same roll of paper (multi-job roll), so that all packaging designs can be printed in one production run, using fewer raw materials. Decisive arguments in favour of the GEMELLii founders' conscious decision to implement digital printing. Future design changes, promotional campaigns or limited editions of tonic water can also be implemented at short notice using digital pre-printing.

Another added value of digital printing for GEMELLii is the printing of codes. Identical or variable, digital printing offers a wide range of possibilities for codes such as the QR code. For example, every packaging print can have the same visible code, or each variety can have a customised QR code. With the digitally printed QR codes on the beverage packaging, GEMELLii creates additional customer appeal and offers added value.

‘As a young company, GEMELLii has always focused on working with the best partners. Digital printing offers us excellent opportunities to ensure that GEMELLii remains adaptable and at a high level.‘
