Once again this year, almost 500 graduates completed their studies at the Media Design University (HdM) in Stuttgart. For the first time, they didn’t celebrate on location but rather with a decorated university building, an online-event and other small surprises. The university’s messages of congratulations were placed on 20-metre -long banners with a winter icicle-look. A total of twelve digitally printed- banners made of paper, each with a width of two metres and a length of 20 metres, adorned the university building on the day. Prof. Dr Martin Dreher from the Packaging Technology course explained the creative decoration idea of university management. “The decoration of our ‘cube’ may only be symbolic packaging, but it gives us the opportunity to present the basic values of our study course on a large stage: Protect valuable things, design sustainably and make the world a little better every day.”
The banners, made of 145 grams per square metre paper, were printed in four-colour digital printing by the HP PageWide T1100S at Christiansen Print in Ilsenburg.- Water-based inks were used instead of conventional banner printing inks, UV -inks or varnishes.
In the summer semester of 2021, students at the University in Stuttgart will process the paper -banners. They will make boxes, paper carrier bags, shipping bags and even Christmas cards. This means that the digitally printed paper-banners will have a second use and can be used again at the next university celebration.
