tesa Twinlock®: Changeover in Ilsenburg now complete

28.02.2019 Unique technology at the Ilsenburg site: following a three-month changeover period, we have now completed the conversion of our central cylinder flexo printing to tesaTwinlock®. The new process allows printing blocks to be affixed to cylinders and sleeves without using plate tapes. In just three months we’ve converted our entire inventory of almost 300 sleeves, across all formats.

"On the one hand, self-adhesive sleeves are beneficial for their high degree of standardisation and related potential for process optimisation," explains Björn Vorlop, Operating Engineer in Ilsenburg. “Beyond this, the technical innovations also lend themselves to improved printing performance and reduced waste, allowing for more sustainable production.” The activation station, unique worldwide and developed specially for this purpose by Dollberg and tesa, went into active production in 2019.

It can now clean and activate two sleeves at the same time, fully automatically and needing no contact with solvents. Enormous time savings can be achieved: Where we once needed to plan in roughly 20 minutes to activate a sleeve, today we need just eight minutes for two sleeves - a five-fold reduction.

Our employees who work with this equipment have quickly grown accustomed to this convenient mounting. Shortly before the changeover was complete - one format hadn’t yet been converted - the colleagues expressed annoyance at having to keep using the “good old” process, and all the taping that went with it. Once again we’ve brought our vision to life and together set benchmarks for the future!
